She sets her lips in a Hepburn way, with a tiny little smile that questions the day, of which kind of manner will dictate thought, will it be a glass of sherry or a lemon drop. She sounds just like an actor from a sixties script, practicing her lines in her bedroom unkempt, and if she had to guess about the time or day, she would bubble up with laughter, with no mirth relayed. For the truth of all semantics, she mimics, in reflections lost in gray, is she is still a little girl with a wound homemade. For no matter what pop psychology might do or say, her moods a haunted star breathing ghost in dismay. She twirls as a pixie in late afternoon, the mirror upon her wall bemoans the evening like a coming ruin. The future night brings to her a devils moon. What would Audrey say?
The voice comes through mind tatters one might say it forms a part. A Motorola playing while faces dance so stark. “The beauty of a woman from her eyes is a doorway to her heart”, and it does not really matter what her father used to say, “Love from the heart comes through the eyes anyway”. A circle is opened from her auditory part, enchanting with verbiage to her soul and then her heart, and as she moves away, a soft British voice breathes, and tells her all she needs, “Nothing is impossible the word itself says I’m possible”. The answer she believes. The answer she believes.
She wears her hair in a Hepburn way, the bangs at mid forehead, where they will not stray, as she twirls through her bedroom in a fake embrace. What would Bogie say, if he were here to sweep her terrors away? Perhaps, perhaps she whispers to the day, for the night cometh where Audrey cannot stay, where the cold, cold fusion of the hardness of man, and a step fathers cruelty with his sinister hands. If the parts of memory would disappear like the scars on her arms from forgotten years, and who’s to say she can’t disappear, under a devils moon. Find that Motorola tucked away in her room, and transport herself away. What would Audrey say?

I adore that quote on possibilities and I am happy you included it in this wonderful post. Another favorite of mine is “People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone.” ❤

You have brilliantly written a tragic tale here Daniel highlighting the beauty inside and outside of every victim of abuse. I was captured by your words and watching the well made video, both together made for a great piece of work. ❤

Thank you Erin for your wonderful comment. I loved the video as well, and thought the song and the video helped balance out some of the darkness in the writing. After all it is about dreams and possibilities even in the darkest of times. 🙂

It is indeed, the courage of the human spirit to find something to build on in the darkest hour is the beginning of that possibility. ❤

There were several lines that got to me reading this but none like the following, “If the parts of memory would disappear like the scars on her arms from forgotten years,” I am wondering if this is ever possible after abuse? Your writing as always was wonderful.

Some points in life are good to avoid, the mind providing us with a search beacon to look about us to find any stimuli that will assist us in avoiding the harsh realities that some of us find ourselves in. My abuse was different as a child from your characters. Still I had my movies and music that I escaped to many times. This was great writing my friend.

Well done my young friend, no truer words have ever been uttered than those of “the eyes being a gateway to a woman’s heart”, and Ms. Hepburn certainly had lovely eyes!!!

I don’t believe you can fake or act the kind of raw emotion Aubrey Hepburn could produce through her eyes. True lady in my opinion. Your always welcome my young friend, it is a pleasure to read your work and comment.

Like so many of your readers, this piece was a surprise to me, and I’m not sure why, you have tackled many issues outside the spiritual realm before. One of my favorite lines “For no matter what pop psychology might do or say, her moods a haunted star breathing ghost in dismay” I couldn’t agree more with the characters sentiment.

This is a wonderful tribute to a classy, talented actress. She is one of my inspirations that lead to my career as a costume designer. ( https://resamcconaghy.com/ ) I’m sure you’ve already been there. Givenchy was a part of that inspiration as well. He was her designer. She was a muse of his, I say. He made a perfume for her. L’intredit was its name. When I was young, in fashion school, I met a perfume representative from Givenchy. He said I was like an Audrey, and gave me a very expensive bottle of the perfume… not an Eau de Toilette, or a Cologne.
Although semi retired now, I hold all I have experienced in great stead. The richness of all my past aspirations is reflected to me in this prose.
My future aspirations are also, thusly, inspired.
Thank you, Daniel!

Hi Resa, I have to tell you, I am very honored you shared this story with me. The best part of blogging is in a special moment like this, in which I am blessed to read a special memento shared like you shared. I have been to your page, more than once and always am amazed at the work you have done and still do. Your genius amazes me, but your wiliness to share a special word with me now and then means even more to me You are indeed much life Aubrey Hepburn, it could very much so be you saying, “Nothing is impossible the word itself says I’m possible” 😉
